Building A Garden Picket Fence

Use a line level a water level or a regular level and a helper to make sure your string line is level.

Mark every 8 feet for the posts. Measure the area for the fence and draw a line using spray paint or use stakes and strings to mark the area. 1 install and trim posts. Mark each post at the height of the string.

Once removed rid the boards of any nails. To securely set the posts fill the bottom of your hole with a layer of gravel and place the post in the hole. Figure out where you want the gate to go and mark posts at least 4 feet apart. This video shows you h.

In this project the pickets stand at 36 above grade and the posts are 38 without the post caps. Install and trim the posts according to your plan. Use a post level to ensure the post is plumb and pour concrete to hold the post in place. It is not necessary to fill the hole with concrete all the way to the top.

How to build a picket fence. To strengthen the gate and add a touch of charm remove two pickets from the scrap end of the fence panel. Use a miter saw or miter box to cut the end of each board at an angle then secure the boards to the back of the gate using wood screws. 2 mark stringer positions.

Starting at one corner mark where you want the post to go. If you re building a traditional picket fence you can use pre made picket fence panels or you can attach pickets to horizontal rails.
